Hunting

Hunting has played a significant role in our family, with most of our diet being game meat we harvest ourselves. It was imperative to my family that I was well versed in hunter safety at a young age to ensure comfort around and using guns. At 13, I Killed my first animal, a large four-by-four deer. By killing my first deer, I contributed to my family while simultaneously learning what taking an animal's life meant. Hunting is a challenging thing. The preparation, in the beginning, is extensive, including understanding what clothes and food to pack. Practicing marksmanship beforehand helps steady the nerves in the moment because it gives you confidence in the shot. Dealing with weather, like extensive snowfall, heavy rain, and strong winds, is all part of the process. Hunting has helped with my spatial awareness by significantly improving my navigation skills. Because of these reasons, hunting will forever be a part of my life.
